I won't even get into a puzzle that requires you to light candles a specific way and the only way to find out the proper order is to go to the other side of the monastery, grab a brush and start brushing walls until you find the hidden diagram. When focusing on the main objectives, Syberia II is about 7 Hours in length. This is only a mild example of an annoyance hindering my enjoyment of the game. However, all of this did not matter, because two minutes after you enter the monastery the monks discover that you are a woman but for plot armor reasons they do not kick you out. However, in order to be successful you must distract the monk and the only way to do that is to BACKTRACK all the way to the village, buy a bird whistle that they didn't sell the first time you were in the shop, GO BACK TO THE MONASTERY and then give it to the monk who gets distracted and runs away to chase a bird. You discover that women are not allowed to enter monasteries so your only hope is to steal a robe from a nearby monk that is doing laundry. All these roadblocks are needlessly complicated puzzles that can be solved in only one way, that prevent you from exploring this wonderful world.įor example, early in the game, you have to sneak into a monastery. Instead of the story moving forward, it seems that every step is another fucking roadblock. They were quite popular during their time, and it was impossible to not go to a game store and find a big cardboard box with Syberia I or II in the PC game section.Īs far as point and clicks go, this is one of the most beautiful games within this genre, despite it's age (It's prerendered backgrounds stood the test of time really well).
